Seminars Focussing on the Future at Borderway Agri Expo

H&H Land & Estates launch a series of seminars at Borderway Agri Expo, featuring keynote speakers discussing livestock trading, rural support schemes, and opportunities for the next generation.

H&H Land & Estates have today announced its collaboration with the UK’s leading autumn livestock showcase, Borderway Agri Expo, to bring to the event a series of seminars focusing on the future of farming.  With speakers including Chief Executives of the National Sheep Association and the National Beef Association, and a DEFRA Policy Advisor, this significant addition to Agri Expo’s programme shines a light on key factors set to influence the future of the agricultural industry.

Taking place during Borderway Agri Expo, on Friday 29th October at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, the open forums will see leading industry figures and members of the H&H team discuss three thought-provoking topics.

In the seminar, UK Livestock Trading: Where Are We Headed?, Chaired by Chris Dodds, Executive Secretary of the Livestock Auctioneers Association, Neil Shand, CEO of The National Beef Association and Phil Stocker, CEO of the National Sheep Association, will debate what the future holds for livestock prices and market demands in light of free trade deals and societal changes.

The Young Farmers Special – Maximising Opportunity seminar is specifically targeted at new entrants to the industry, and our next generation of farmers. The audience will hear from passionate young farmers, who are themselves are already doing hugely beneficial work for the future of the industry. Speakers include tenant farmer Emma Gray, Tom Vickers, Weardale Young Farmer and Northern Native Produce, and Robbie Tuer, Cumbria YFC Northern District Chairman.

Finally, during The Future of Rural Support Schemes seminar, chaired by Tim Sedgewick, Associate Director at H&H Land & Estates, John Hustler, Policy Advisor for DEFRA, will take an in-depth look at the vast changes already underway to how farm support is being delivered. The audience will also hear from Emma Smith, Chartered Surveyor at H&H Land & Estates about the opportunities ahead from a schemes and grants perspective.

Giving further background to the seminar programme, Tim Sedgewick, Associate Director at H&H Land & Estate said: “I believe that these are really exciting times for the agricultural industry. However, for farmers to successfully plan the future of their farms, knowledge will be key.

“Through these seminars, our aim is to provide farmers with the very latest information to ensure that they are kept informed and up to date. Our speakers are all experts in their fields and will be taking an in-depth look at the areas which they represent. The themes have been specifically chosen as we feel they are particularly relevant at this current time.”

All seminars which will be held in Ring 4, adjacent to the main concourse and will be interactive, with a question-and-answer session. They are timetabled as follows:

10:30-11:30am:                 UK Livestock Trading: Where Are We Headed?

12:00-1:00pm:                   A Young Farmers Special – Maximising Opportunity

2:00-2:45pm:                      The Future of Rural Support Schemes

Borderway Agri Expo expects to welcome up to 10,000 national and international guests on the day, and will feature a packed programme including almost 100 livestock classes, over 150 trade stands, competitions, live demonstrations, and more. The highly acclaimed livestock event showcases all aspects of the agricultural industry and is highly anticipated after such events were unable to go ahead in 2020.
